Cycling isn't safe and neither is driving a car. Even after being taken out by an idiot motorist last Wed I still feel safer riding a bike than driving a car. Not that I can ride a bike with a broken arm and a bunch of stitches in my left knee.
I feel it is easier to mitigate your risk while riding a bike and relatively cheap.

Besides... life is not fun without risk.
