Bikes: cannondale r400 2006 kona smoke 2005 scott cr1 team

am gathering tools to work on bike myself

something that should have been done years ago by me. getting tools and some other things to start basic maintenance on my bike(s). have purchaned zinn and the art of road bike maintenance (2nd ed) and have a couple tools. now what i need is help and advice. dont know where to start but what would be a good thing or two to do to get more comfortable with handling my bike(s). know how to do the chain cleaning and taking off chain rings.

here are some things i would like to do...

1. remove cassette to clean easier and possibly replace.
2. take pedals apart to clean/grease
3. take bottom bracket out. just to do it.

good starter things to try?
