I tried a friend's fixie years back. On a bike path with few hills it was great fun and a new experience. I couldn't see undertaking the learning curve to master the technique in traffic or down hills. It held no magic for me, but then I subscribe to the theory that half the fun of a long bike ride is coasting some of the way.
