Do yourself a favor: aim for a $2500 or so bike. Get the best deal you can, but don't pay anything more than that for the bicycle itself
in total.It'll be far more than you'll need for a while, and you'll love the ride. Either save the rest of the money (recommended, crap economy) or apply the rest to a damn good &lightweight helmet, clothing/shoes/gear, tools, stand, etc:, and learn to love and value every aspect of cycling... including taking care of your ride.
