+1 and I 100% agree with Kim. If I thought I had to carry a gun in my jersey, it would take the fun out of cycling. With that said, I have carried pepper spray (legally sold in CA) when out riding alone. I carry it in case I run into a rabid animal or rabid human. I'm not afraid to use it, but it would be in defense only and only so that I could get away and find help.
