Some people like those paths, to each his own. Personally, I don't like bike paths period, consistently faced with mall-eyed pedestrians and others and as the story demonstrates, predatory trolls are always a potential.

I don't normally ride them however as I was out with my wife and 13 year old just to play, we wanted a carless environment. Bike paths have their uses; you just have to deal with whatever comes. Kinda nice to be able to just go slow, amble around, stop, etc.
