Wow. I didn't think this would be so difficult. I'm trying to get the standard Dia-Comp brake levers off the steel handlebar of my wife's Motobecane Mixte. Is there a trick to these? I see no way to "release" them. I wiggled them about 2/3rd's off but now they are stuck. I see my 1979 Schwinn has the same units. And I plan on switching that handlebar next. Now I'm not looking forward to it! Is there some way to release the tension on these?

Just keep unscrewing the screw that let you wiggle them down this far. If it comes apart, don't worry, just keep track of all the parts as they fall and we can take it from there.
