brakes for "crash bike" to try racing
I'm getting some parts together for a new build. It's not going to be anything pretty, or special. I wanted to build an AL-framed bike out of extra parts I had laying around (105 9-speed group [need shifters], ritchey bars/stem/seatpost, on an older Allez frame). Something on the cheap that I won't be upset about if I ruined it in a crash. I want to 'try' some local racing, but don't want to put an expensive/nice bike at-risk for a crash. If I like it and continue, then maybe over the winter I'll build/buy something else.
I need a set of brake calipers. As I've never raced, will any brakes do? I'm not really concerned about saving every gram here. Since I'm not familiar with a racing situation, I'm not sure how big of a role a set of brakes play. I'm tending to think that $20 Tektro's from ebay will suit me fine for this project. Opinions?
