Another peugeot question

I just bought what I think is a peugeot at a garage sale - almost none of the components are original so I'm not even sure if it is a pug. Front forks are chrome with pug logo stickers, unmarked fork ends, flat fork crown, decent workmanship, but no 531 stickers. I assume they belong to the frame - but this is the weird part, it has no seatpost binder bolt. Rather there is a setscrew that bears directly onto the (unmarked) seatpost. Dropouts are very short horizontal with no markings, integral der hanger. Stays have paint under current repaint, so not chrome. Nutted brake bolts - I think the late model Weinmann caliper brakes are original, and the Shimano 105 crank probably is too. Had the world's ugliest spinergy rear wheel and newish campy integrated shifter (7-speed). I'm planning on making it a commuter since the paint on the frame is so ugly. Anyone know the largest rear cog the campy der can take? I'm assuming 28 will be no problem.
