I came close to buying one of the VFRs (I can't remember which number), but ended up going with the Kona Dr Dew for my commuter. That bike will make a fine commuter and Norco is a good brand now (20 years ago they were known for their very cheap bikes, but that has changed over the past
5-10 years).
I think you made a good purchase, but I'll make some quick suggestions:
- if you are serious about riding in the rain, get some real fenders, not clip ons (planet bike makes some nice ones for 700c tires and they're pretty cheap)
- I highly recommend putting a rack on and getting some panniers - you won't regret it
- and finally, don't buy crap clothes for commuting. Here's what I did: I would take the money that I theoretically saved from not bussing, not parking downtown, not paying car insurance, etc and spent that on good outer and inner wear clothes. Now I stay perfectly dry and warm all the time. Trust me, it's worth it.
