Spring is my
least favorite season.
Summer has greenness and heat going for it. I can put on a light jacket and head out for a ride anytime. I can plan ahead a bit for weekend rides and be reasonably sure I'm going to have some relatively decent weather.
Fall has all the beautiful colors, and still a bit of warmth. Fall is a time when my season is winding down, and I can go out and ride in all the beauty at a relaxed pace with no particular goals to meet. I can ride for fun.
Winter has the beauty of the glistening white snow, and winter is a time when I do other things for some variety. I join a spinning class, I ride my trainer, I walk more, I might participate in winter sports (although I haven't done that recently), and I might just take time off cycling to get some other things done.
And then there's spring ... the time when it is endlessly +4C with a chilly wind. The time when everything is brown and mucky or dusty. Spring teases us with a day when it reaches +9C and gives us hope that maybe we'll crack double digits ... and then drops back to +4C. Then, just when we're completely sick of +4C, it drops to -6C and snows, a slushy, mucky snow ... to remind us that things could be worse. It's extremely difficult to plan rides in advance ... you just never know if it will be +4C, like it's been for the past 2 weeks, or if that will be a weekend where a small blizzard will roll through. By the time spring rolls around, I'm tired of wearing 3 or 4 layers of clothing every time I go out for a ride. And this brown, dismal, and chilly spring just seems to go on for so long .... from about the beginning of March to near the middle of May.
Yep ... I'm not riding outside today ... too much slush.
