Welcome Cameron! If you have an adventurous flair about you, pick it up from your LBS and do the work yourself. You'll learn something in the process, will enjoy satisfaction of doing it yourself and will make plenty of friends on this forum. There are plenty here that are either happy to help you or have already been down that road before you. Oh and $30 is a great price even if it needs work. You're nearing the threshold at $100, but still for a bike returned to you in good working condition - not bad. Good luck!
Considering that I have absolutely no tools for something like this, and $55 of my repair price was parts, it would probably cost me a lot more to do it myself. And I'm not sure I'm up to something like that.
This is my first real bike, so I just wanna see how everything goes, and decide how seriously I want to take this hobby.
