No, it's really more of a pride of ownership issue, the same way an automobile afficionado doesn't want a Yugo and a gun collector doesn't want something that will explode in their face. I would not expect someone who treats bikes like McDonald's wrappers to know what it's like to want a bike they can ride for a decade or more, with components that work and couldn't double as a boat anchor.

Where you really implying that LBS bikes break down more than Walmart bikes^^? That is either incredibly dense or devilishly trollish. Glad you found your "niche." I find it disappointing that society has come to the point where people are made to feel guilty for being "elitist" for choosing well-made products over junk, (and I won't even get into the outsourced labor and human rights issues that Walmart is pretty much the definitive example of.) For many people their heinous bikes are merely the icing on a large, turd-filled cake. But I digress.
