From the people I have talked to a smaller volume is probably better. I have the Schwalbe Little Alberts...622x64 (look at the real #'s on a tire..not the generic 2.1, 2.25 etc...a much better guide for volume) Johnny has rocked them as has Maki....all have been super pleased. The consensus is that being a 29 you get more contact patch anyways. Running big volume is heavier which is a bigger issue with 29 as they are harder to get spinning. I would suggest at most 2.25 but you will probably be happier in the long run with something smaller.
