Sorry, guess that was kind of a random babble. What I mean is that I think the reason a guy might spend $250 on a ti King headset intead of $30 on a Cane that will do the same job just as well probably doesn't have anything to do with performance or even the tiny diff in weight. They do it because for a certain type of person building the 'perfect' bike a hobby in itself, separate from their riding, really, and for whatever reason that's the exact headset they want on that bike.

I honestly do think bike building is kind of a creative outlet thing for some people - sort of an obsession with form, like those people who have 10s or 100s of thousands of dollars invested in old cars that never get driven except onto the floor at shows. The other, "it's not about the bike" type of person doesn't have that same level interest in the mechanics of bike itself and makes more rational, practical decisions because it's more of a tool to them. And those two types of just don't seem to see eye to eye at all.
