I've been commuting for 4 years now, full-time every day for 2, and this morning was the first time I saw another cyclist that was definitely commuting, apart from one time I saw a kid who may have been too young for a driver's license riding around in the dark with no lights, never saw him again.
This guy was just as Fred as me; had very good blinking tail lights, bright yellow jacket. I was about 60 yards behind him for about 4 miles. This isn't my normal commute time, I was running an hour late today, so I may not see him again soon.
Wow. On my commute I see

At the train station getting off trains 30+
On the Train 50 or so at some point
Sunnyvale - 30+, including day laborers at home depot
Same on the reverse.
And we still whine about getting no respect. Different worlds.
