Triples are a good idea for most anyone, I'll always have at least one bike with a triple. Winners of the Tour have used them at certain points in the race. If Laurant Fignon (etc.) can use one, I can too. Triples are great for: early season, dirt roads, pulling or carrying a load, working on or maintaining your spin, long tough climbs, saving your knees for old age, times when you want both a climbing gear and a close ratio.
