What about Fuji America's? I've seen a couple and they seem to be very well equipped. I'm not clear on when they came out though - so I'm not sure if that model fits within this conversation.
I did a little research on this, the Fuji America's preceded the Fuji Touring Series, so late 70's into very early 80's. They have a little more chrome, but lack some of the touring niceties like spoke holders, brake cable brazeons. They also have sidepulls rather than cantis.
