I've found the same thing. I really don't notice a difference, and I doubt most people could. I think it's all in UnsafeAlpine's mind!

Also, I don't know anything about cadence, speed, heart rate, etc (I just ride my bike), but wouldn't a cadence of 60rpm uphill be a damned furious pace to keep?
Regarding the components UnsafeAlpine lists, I'd probably buy most of them (especially the triple crankset, derailleur and brake levers), but I wouldn't pay terribly much. It might be worth it to sell them locally on CL. Might not be worth it to sell on ebay - with the exception of the triple crankset which, if in very good condition, could bring a small chunk of change.
