Many years ago, I was living out in Whistler, BC. I was a climber, as were many of my friends. Gear kept getting stolen from cars parked at the Chief in Squamish. Police couldn't care less. The summer moved on, and more and more gear got stolen. Eventually, some climbers set up a bait vehicle, then made it look like they were heading up the trail to the climbs, but instead they waited in the bush. Sure enough, the local scumbags who were responsible for the thefts soon showed up. What ensued was some of the roughest vigilante justice you've ever seen. No police were called. No arrests were made, but the thefts stopped.
