Regardless of what you think constitutes "assualt" or "excessive", the cops on the scene didn't think so. If I had beaten the kid to a pulp, then an argument could be valid. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I didn't try to strangle the guy, I only used enough force for him to realize that breathing is more important than fighting. Think whatever you'd like in your perfect world, but one day reality will set in.

Do you think that undercover security at stores should give a quick reprimand when they see someone slip an item into their pocket? No. They wait for them to make it outside so that when the case does go to court, the defendant is caught dead to rights. No excuses.
