Had my lbs do a BB job many years ago - and they swapped the axle on me without asking/saying. I realized it the next time I opened the BB, and found a generic Asian axle where there used to be a Campy... Needless to say, there was an interesting discussion back at the lbs after that, and one less customer for that outfit. So don't rule out a mistake on which axle they put back in. The fact that they did not put the cranks back on don't smell too good either.
