Not true. I know what my proper pressure feels like without having ever measured it. If I wash out, too high. If I drag ass, too low. Ta-daaaaa. Just because there's a tool for it doesn't mean it needs to be used. I've never used a spoke tension meter in my life, but I've built strong wheelsets that haven't needed truing since being built.
