I think the fad has pretty gone mainstream and many folks are riding fixed for the simple joy of it and not because they need to be fashionable.
Yeah, the fixie makes sooooo much sense -- I'm surprised everyone doesn't see it. I mean, what else works so well for hills -- I suppose you like bikes with a gear range, or a freehub that allows coasting. It's not just morons that think they're cool because they can say they ride a fixie - everyone should ride one. On the one hand, you have a fixie, over here, you have exactly the same bike except it is a single speed. Now, someone with common sense might say that, the two bikes otherwise being equal, the option of being able to stop pedaling under certain circumstances has some advantages. So the only reason the moron would choose the fixie is so people will think he's cool. Nope, not a fad at all.

I'm with Lou on this one -- other than the Nishiki and the CCM, none of those bikes interest me, so go ahead and grind them up so you can be one of the cool people. Just please stay away from the decent vintage bikes, so that when the fad is over, we won't all have to look back at the SS/fixie fad as the time when all the nice vintage bikes got scrapped.
