Spend the money to get something you will wear and is comfortable. You can buy a thousand 40$ helmets, but if you hate them all, you're not going to be wearing one when your head meets the road.
Actually I'd be fine with an ugly piece of **** helmet for $40 bucks, but i don't generally ride too fast or put myself in danger so i don't really need one. If i felt i was going to be riding somewhere dangerous though, I'd wear one no problem.
BTW, that albert enstein picture/post made me lol. It was so stupid, it was funny.
