Wow! Great accomplishment. Didn't you first make a practice run on a weekend just to see how it would go, or did you just do it? When I started riding I lived 19 miles from work, but didn't commute because I thought it was too far. Then I moved 7 miles from work and commuted every day. Then the company relocated 18 miles away from my house and I wondered if I could still commute, so I tried it one Saturday. It was great, so I started commuting regularly. Now after reading that you commuted 50 miles when out of shape I am thinking maybe I am way too cautious!
