Of course I wouldn't try that again, but at that time, at that moment, it worked out fine.
I'd follow some of the other suggestions like skipping the milk or eating something else. A protein shake would work well too, works for me - suppresses appetite, has some calories (270 according to the package), and no milk so it sits well with me. I use such shakes to kick off 3-5 hour rides with no problems.
