Way, way, way back in the previous century, when I was an undergrad I would ride my trusty Schwinn World Sport between campus and Dwight Derby (or Clark Kerr as they call it now), usually with 20 lbs of textbooks in my backpack and a triple cap from Cafe Roma in one hand and a Top Dog in the other. The lowest gear I had was a 42-25. Apparently, Durant Street was much flatter then because when I was there in the fall for a football game, it's gotten much, much steeper.
I know! Sacramento's great for biking,
because it's flat, but I kinda wish we had hills too ... just not too many of them. Best hill I know of is all the way out in Fair Oaks (from the bike trail across the bridge and up ... probably only half a mile).
I think I might be good at climbing (at 165 lbs and 5'11") but there aren't many hills to try on ...
