Now I got stopped by a cop. I was in the turn lane, waiting for the signal to turn left. He gave me a bleep from his siren, and the "come here finger" like you do to little kids (I was a might bit PO'd by that ) He told me that if he caught me in the lane again he would give me a ticket for holding up the traffic. I'm pretty sure I have every right to be in that lane. I didn't want (or need) to get into an argument with the nice officer (wise ass kid is more like it) especially since I didn't have a copy of the state law.

I looked up the law this morning, and it states: (This is from Indiana)
"Roadways; rights and duties
Sec. 2. A person riding a bicycle upon a roadway has all the rights and duties under this article that are applicable to a person who drives a vehicle, except the following:?
(1) Special regulations of this article.
(2) Those provisions of this article that by their nature have no application.
As added by P.L.2-1991, SEC.9."

As I read this, it says that unless there is a specific law against doing something, I have every right to the lane as a car.... I checked the rest of the bicycle regs and didn't see anything else pertaining to lane usage.

What do you all think? Any Atty's (Sea Bag or real) on here want to chime in?

TIA
Billy
Sounds like you were acting lawfully.

which is another reason why I carry a copy of the motor vehicular code for my state as it applies to bicycles in my bag. My state provides it on request for free.

Really officer? I have a copy of the code right here...which code am I violating?
