Your first sentence is the operative one, I think, East Hill.

I would never presume anything about the wishes or intentions of unknown or unrevealed parties.

Broadening the pool is a good idea. It cuts both ways. Give me a chance to be unselfish; first let me at least have the benefit of knowing if there is other interest and of discussing amicable solutions.

As this appears to be unfolding, I will not duplicate this effort in the event of my future needs. How does that encourage broadened involvement?

For me it's not about the $'s. It's about shared standards and a trust in a consistent behavior among strangers trying to become closer in a common activity. Still a hazy area here for me.

Lesson learned.
