I remember reading about a chemistry professor from the U.K. who gave a talk, and he was describing his apparatus and the conditions of the experiment. He mentioned that the temperature at which he made his measurement was something like 55F. After the talk, someone asked him what he used to chill the apparatus down to this temperature - it hadn't occurred to the questioner that this was room temperature.
Remember those old night caps that people wore to bed? Those were to keep your head warm at night.
Remember those canopy beds? Not the phony ones they make today. In the old days, they used those to help trap the heat.
