I've been commuting and mountain riding on wheels I built over the last 12 years and other than finding two loose spokes on one wheel they have been totally trouble free other than the odd 1/4 turn to retrue for the entire time.
That rare but real need to retrue tells me that the last thing I would want on my spoke nipples would be a locking compound. I've been using either motorcycle chain lube or some grease thinned with paint thinner. Both start as a liquid to get into all the nooks and crannies and threads and then dry to a grease to protect adn lube when that odd tweak is needed.
I understand that there MAY be some issues with radially laced fronts but other than that I'll stick with lube only.
