Ohh i see, so youve got the vee cable rubbing the top of the fender no matter what? Thats a pain.

The lever has to be of a correct travel, so the cable has to move far enough as you pull. If your cantis are adjusted well, there shouldnt be a problem with the specific lever type, frankly I have used cantis with vee levers and vice versa.

And in short, no. No fitting is really necessary, but it depends on the brake itself. I have an old weinmann that has the old school bolt-with-a-hole that secures the cable. Some types come with a little deely that slips onto the cable and then locks into the cable on the cantis. Either way you are fine with any cable. If this is not the case, I will eat my hat.
