Is everyone out there familiar with the CityRacks program? Contact the NYC DOT and request a rack they will install racks if they deem the location right for it:

I've never tried it myself, but give it a shot. If enough people request racks for a location they might install a few.
yeah, i just started...about a month down there. my locks weren't the greatest (i had a bell u-lock and a cable lock) so i'm not really that surprised. i should have had better locks. lesson learned.
thanks for the link on the cityracks program. i know my co-worker requested one, so perhaps i should as well.
