I've never done the topple-over sort of fall. I switched this year from SPD mountain bike pedals to Speedplay Frogs, and as far as I can tell, it would be nigh onto impossible to topple over without being able to unclip in time. There's just zero resistance to unclipping. Twist 20 degrees and you're not clipped anymore. I highly recommend the for the fearful.
