Hello kephren, your Cannondale Criterium is a nice bike, but check down at the bottom bracket to make sure there aren't any cracks. If you look on the bottom bracket, there should be a serial number on it. Cannondale may be able to help you determine the year. It's almost certainly from 1990 or so, though.

What components are on the bike?

As to shoes/pedals--I am very old school, and have toe clips on all my bikes. So, I'll let someone else answer that question for you .
