Unless you were dehydrated from hard training/racing from two days ago, excessive water consumption is not a good idea. It washes out good stuff like electrolytes and water soluble vitamins.

A big drink of water with a meal is usually enough to rehydrate healthy persons. Other than that just sip on sports drink after breakfast the day of the race.
