FWIW, I just picked up a pair of Teva sport sandals for hiking and cycle touring use. They're light, shed water quickly, pack better than shoes, and are much more appropriate for general use than Crocs or flip-flops.
You might also want to use your bike sometimes without clipping in. You can get pedals that have clips on one side, platform on the other (eg Shimano M324). Someone also makes a plastic platform that clips into the pedal.
