The Mallet is more of what you are looking for. These look like the mountain version of the Quattro, which has a platform that is useless without the cleats to lock into them.

I use Quattros on my roadie, and candies on both of my pigs and you can't use them effectively without the proper shoes/cleats. Go with the Malletts.
