searching for "GIOS" on the classic redezvous site over on bikelist.org reveals a convoluted story involving the US, mexico, bike shops in canda, jim mercier, law suits, rumors, spray, etc. etc. not sure what to make of the story, but yes you are correct, i think, not entirely confidently, that the bikes with stamped lugs and adjustable rear drop outs are real GIOS bikes.

on a side note, took out my gios for a quick spin yesterday--rides pretty smooth...what i was most impressed with, however, was the shimano 600 ultrega brifters and deraillers. VERRRY smooth shifting. they made some good stuff!
