The post is a Thomson Materpiece, the tube and head are integral-machined from one single piece of high strength 7000 series aluminum, so super super strong.
The light source is the whole surface (around 0.4mm thick) there is no point of light or light source as such (like an incandescent bulb being diffused through glass) - every part of the surface is as bright as any other.
