I asked my ins co about this and was told that-
...(in IL) your auto policy will not cover a bicycle unless the bicycle is stolen off or out of your car, and then the bicycle value is considered personal property. Your auto policy will not cover your operation of a bicycle at all because in IL, insurance companies don't have to cover vehicles that aren't titled and registered and you cannot title or register a bicycle.
...if your bicycle is stolen from your home, it can be claimed on your homeowner's policy.
...if you crash into somebody walking down the street, your homeowner's or renter's policy will cover medical and property liability up to a certain (fairly small) amount. These limits aren't normally very high because people don't tend to make many claims on this part of the policy, but I could have paid more for higher coverage.
