If I was quoted $3k for the same Ridley at the LBS that CC is selling for $1800 with EXACT same components, it is a $3k bike that another company was able to sell for less. When they list in the Buyer's Guides, they list retail price as a framework. So if I take the printout to the LBS of the $1800 price and they cannot match that is their problem. Still a $3k bike if you had to replace it if CC runs out of them.
You could say the same thing in reverse: one could pay $3k for a $1.8k bike, and the LBS that does so just made a whack of a profit (no wonder they threw in the free bottle cage after much haggling).
