It seems to me that with any product, as you hit the top of the price range, you get diminishing returns. You start getting into stuff that is semi-custom, low-production, made in high-labor-cost locations, etc., and that runs the price up out of all proportion to the increased utility. True for cars, cameras, bikes, etc.
