Brand New Member, LA commuter's first ride

Hello gang, I first heard about this "bike to work" thing a few weeks ago online. After looking into it, I had to give it a shot. I spent a few weeks looking at different models online and test riding plenty. I ended up buying a Cannondale street warrior 4 and cycled home from the shop (only about .5 miles away from the office). Anyways, A few observations.

(edit)I live in downtown Los Angeles, and work in West Hollywood. In my car its about a 8mile ride one way, but usually takes me 30 min or so.

1. It was actually more fun then I thought it would be, and I came in thinking it was going to be alot of fun.

2. I was a bit more intimidated by car traffic then I thought. I even ended up walking my bike on the sidewalk a few blocks to get out of the heavy traffic (this is LA).

3. I rode my bike on the sidewalk when it was wide and clear of people, is this ok? Living downtown LA, i see lots of people riding on the sidewalk down here. If I go slow, will the cops give me a problem (a few places it seemed like I would be crazy to actually ride on the street)?

Please, If any LA riders are reading this, I would gladly buy you a beer in exchange for some knowledge in commuting in LA! I really want to be part of the solution, <3 LA & <3 bikes.!
