I've gotten fairly firm confirmation that it's a 1950s model though the lack of chromed fork or stays is a bit of a head scratcher.

Just been having a close look at yours.

I assume the chrome on mine was removed on the repaint.
Could well be the same with yours.
A good quality paint job would necessitate removal of chrome plate to give good adhesion to the paint, wouldn't it?
I would think so.

Your paint looks excellent to me.
In my case I believe the lining applied was correct period 50s RRA and so indicates a quality (thought-out) repaint.
Even though it's looking tired after 50+ years.
