But the majority won't consider the bicycle as a regular means of transport because they simply have too far to go and feel nervous about riding on traffic-choked streets, bicycling advocates and dedicated motorists say.
I kinda like this quote as it implies that some motorists actually understand the absurdity of riding on the sidewalk when you're traveling an significant distance. 10+ miles all on the sidewalk? No thanks!!!

"It's never just a matter of picking up a few things you could carry on your bike," said Crystal Kelson, 33, a nurse and mother from North Philadelphia. "You need a car."
WTF does she need to be picking up "a few things" every single day of the week? Does she need a new kitchen sink to haul around every single day? This is consumer prostitution at its worst. "Today after work, I'll buy..."

Kelson said there was no real alternative to her Dodge Charger -- which now costs her $65 a week in gasoline -- even for short trips to the supermarket.
Couldn't possibly drive a smaller, less consumptive vehicle. With some people, it always has to be a "this is my identity" vehicle.
