You could always use the TruVativ-style BB shell converter that Harris sells, install a cottered spindle, mount a nice cottered crank from an older road machine, and fit a 39 tooth ring on it (better yet, find out that such a size was made for the steel crank you intend to mount).

Hah, thanks Kurt, but I'm just a step ahead of you there. I bought the adapter perhaps halfway into the project but just haven't found the right crankset yet. Looking for something with gracefully delicate arms and a very-open spidery chainring.
One of the very old Schwinn 3-pc cottered cranksets would be nice.
