Isn't that funny? I've struggled with creaks too. I've had a creaky headset. I've also *thought* I had a creaky headset that turned out to be (on different bikes): cables hitting each other, spokes pinging, and cables creaking where they meet the cable guides.

Yours is even better - the sound appeared to come from in front of you, when it really came from, uh, beneath you. It seems those tubes in a bike can act almost like a pipe organ - a vibration on one part can get other parts resonating.

Right now I have a break squeal which is perfectly tuned to some part of my frame because I'm getting this loud resonating hum. It's actually kind of cool.
