thats it! i've had it with gears

i never feel comfortable riding on anything bumpy on my hardrock. the derailer is a total piece of sh** the chain randomly falls off the front sprocket when i hop off a curb or something. the back gears shift to what ever cog they feel like at the time, however thankfully they stay put when im not shifting.

i want to convert to single speed or get an internal 8 speed hub thats disc compatible (yes i know this willcost close to 300 bones) are internal hubs viable for cross country riding?

so for single speed i need a chain tensioner right? i have vertical drop outs.

how much is a conversion kit?

:edit: i by no means want my single speed "fixed" thats ********

if i dont like single speed is it easy to convert it back?

i have 8 gears in the back so i dunno how i would space that out or even if i can.

is it easy to convert the front 3 sprockets into one?

whats a good gearing option for about 50/50 trail/road riding? i want speeeeed i'd rather fly around at high speed and not have the option of wussing out and taking the granny gear.

could these shifting woes be addressed with a decent derailer? how much is a not piece of sh** derailer set up?
